Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)
Science is done best in a culture of openness, kindness, and mutual respect. The Dudley Lab is committed to creating a working environment that celebrates diveristy of viewpoints, backgrounds, and experiences of our members; this make our lives richer and our science stronger.
We will also
- Communicate our data and share our research materials widely
- Help trainees and students develop the skills, independence, and confidence they need to reach their career goals
- Discuss DEI topics and training at lab meetings
- Create and participate in opportunities for outreach to the public with an emphasis on traditionally underrepresented groups
- Enjoy the journey of discovery and invention
"I am a passionate evangelist for application of scientific solutions to the world’s problems. This is what drew me to synthetic biology in the first place…the chance to address the pressing challenges of sustainability, human health, and climate change; challenges whose negative effects of which will disproportionally affect underrepresent minorities. Therefore, it is essential that we not only address the technical challenges in and of themselves but (as importantly) we also champion individuals, decision-makers, and entrepreneurs from the communities most affected."
